Dr. Alexander Titus
Alexander Titus is a technologist working at the intersection of data science and biotechnology. His career has woven between the private sector, public sector, and academia. Currently a Principal Scientist with USC’s Information Sciences Institute, Titus was previously the VP of Strategy and Computational Sciences at Colossal Bioscience, where he led strategic projects across the organization, and his team worked cross-functionally to provide AI/ML and genotype-to-phenotype analyses to make de-extinction a reality. Titus joined Colossal from Google Cloud, where his work as a strategic business executive included leading AI/ML and life sciences solution work for the global public sector. Previously, Titus was the inaugural Assistant Director (now called Principal Director) for Biotechnology within the Office of the CTO at the Department of Defense, where he led the team developing the DoD’s roadmap toward biotechnology modernization. He is also the Founder of Bioeconomy.XYZ, an online publication focused on making biotechnology and the bioeconomy accessible to the general public. Throughout his career, Titus has also served as an AI/ML Research Fellow on the Amazon Alexa AI team as well as in the B.Next group at the strategic investment firm In-Q-Tel, and as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Biostatistics at Georgetown University and Biotechnology at the University of New Hampshire. He holds a Ph.D. in Quantitative Biomedical Sciences from Dartmouth College and a BS & BA in biochemistry and biology from the University of Puget Sound.
