Oklahoma City, Oklahoma – Yesterday, NSCEB Commissioners, including Congresswoman Stephanie Bice (OK-05), joined local biotechnology leaders and Oklahoma state officials, including Oklahoma Secretary of Commerce Deborah Moorad, in Oklahoma City to explore its dynamic biotech ecosystem. Oklahoma’s strong biotech and emerging technologies sectors play a key role in strengthening America’s critical supply chains and preparing our nation for the future of biotechnology.

Representative Bice, NSCEB Vice Chair Michelle Rozo, and NSCEB Commissioners Alexander Titus, Angela Belcher, Dawn Meyerriecks, and Paul Arcangeli met with local industry leaders, academics, and officials at Innovation Hall in Oklahoma City. They hosted in-depth discussions on policy levers to drive even more growth in the local industry including opportunities for workforce development and scaling in biomanufacturing.

Commissioners also toured BioTC, a biotech workforce development hub that offers hands-on training to students, meeting the next generation of biotech leaders at work.

“Oklahoma is a prime example of how biotechnology leadership can help drive growth locally while also supporting national progress,” said NSCEB Vice Chair Michelle Rozo. “Through investments in emerging technologies and in the future biotech workforce, Oklahoma is strengthening the state’s economy and contributing to America’s national security. We are especially grateful to Representative Bice for championing biotechnology in Congress.”

“It was my honor to have the National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology in Oklahoma City,” said NSCEB Commissioner Representative Stephanie Bice (OK). “As a commissioner, I have been focused on highlighting the growing bioeconomy in our state and advocating for policies that strengthen our national security and keep us ahead of threats from near-peer adversaries. These discussions will help prepare us for the future of biotechnology.”

“Oklahoma is honored to welcome the National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology to Oklahoma City,” said OK Secretary of Commerce Deborah Moorad. “Our state is achieving remarkable progress in the bioscience industry, driven by strong collaboration between the private sector and community leaders. Oklahoma’s research institutions and universities are at the forefront of discovering groundbreaking applications with far-reaching impact. We hope the Commission leaves inspired by the innovation happening here and carries Oklahoma’s story of discovery and collaboration to the rest of the nation.”

“Oklahoma’s life sciences sector is fueling innovation, attracting new investments, and creating high-quality jobs that strengthen our state’s economy,” said Michelle Gregory, Executive Director of Life Science Oklahoma. “The NSCEB Roadshow visit was a valuable opportunity to highlight the groundbreaking work taking place across the state, and Life Science Oklahoma was proud to be part of showcasing how our bioscience community is positioning Oklahoma as a competitive force in the global marketplace.”

“We are thrilled to welcome the NSCEB to our world-class BioTC Oklahoma training facility where we are proud to play a pivotal role in developing and sustaining the region’s biotech and life science pipeline,” said BIOTC Executive Director, Koey Keylon. “As a cornerstone of the local bio-ecosystem, BioTC is ensuring the next generation of lab talent is ready to meet industry needs while making our shared lab spaces and specialized assets available to support vital research and educational partnerships. We look forward to continuing our work in support of the NSCEB’s goal to strengthen local capacity while advancing U.S. leadership in this essential sector.”

Biotech Across America Roadshow
This summer, the Commission is hitting the road to highlight biotechnology across America, including the companies, academic institutions, workforce development programs, and policy initiatives that are driving the future for this rapidly growing industry. Commissioners will continue learning about the work being done across this vibrant ecosystem while engaging on the key findings and recommendations from the Commission’s recent report to Congress.

About NSCEB: The National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology is a time-limited, high-impact legislative branch advisory entity whose purpose is to advance and secure biotechnology, biomanufacturing, and associated technologies for U.S. national security and to prepare the United States for the bioindustrial revolution. The Commission published a comprehensive report in April 2025, including recommendations for action by Congress and the federal government. The bipartisan Commission is composed of Congressionally-appointed Commissioners with members from both the Senate and the House of Representatives as well as experts from industry, academia, and government.
